The Albino Red Eye Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) is a unique and elegant freshwater fish known for its striking appearance. This angelfish variation features a pale, almost translucent white body with a soft, creamy hue and lacks dark pigmentation. Its most distinctive feature is its bright red eyes, which contrast beautifully with its light-colored body.

Native to the slow-moving waters of the Amazon River basin, Pterophyllum scalare thrives in well-planted aquariums with calm waters. These angelfish are generally peaceful but can become territorial, especially during breeding. They do well in community tanks with similarly sized, non-aggressive tankmates. Due to their delicate coloration and slightly more sensitive nature, they are best suited for aquarists with some experience in maintaining stable water conditions.

Compatible Tank Mates

Choose tank mates carefully to avoid conflicts. This fish can be territorial, especially during breeding. Therefore, opt for peaceful species that coexist harmoniously. Suitable tank mates include:

  • Tetras
  • Corydoras catfish
  • Gouramis
  • Non-aggressive barbs

Feeding

This carnivorous fish enjoys a varied diet. Offer quality flakes, live, and frozen foods like brine shrimp. Additionally, include vegetable-based foods. Feed twice daily in small portions. Since it’s an aggressive eater, ensure other fish get food. Thus, a balanced diet keeps it healthy.
