The Bumblebee Goby (Brachygobius doriae) is a charming nano goby species, adored for its bold yellow-and-black banding and perching behavior. These 2–3.5 cm juveniles are robust, curious, and full of personality. Though small, they are best housed in brackish or well-buffered freshwater systems with other peaceful, similarly sized fish or in species-specific nano tanks.


Key Features:

  • Iconic yellow and black bumblebee striping

  • Slightly larger and stockier than B. ocellicauda

  • Highly active bottom-dweller that perches and darts

  • Best kept in small groups with plenty of structure

  • Temperature: 74–80°F

  • pH: 7.2–8.2

  • Hardness: Moderate to hard

  • Salinity: Slight brackish preferred (SG 1.002–1.006)
    Can be kept in well-maintained freshwater for short term


Feeding:

  • Carnivorous – live or frozen foods only (bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia)

  • Will rarely accept dry or flake food

  • Feed small portions 1–2 times daily to support energy and color


Tank Requirements:

  • Minimum tank size: 10 gallons

  • Best kept in groups of 4–6 to reduce aggression

  • Decorate with driftwood, caves, stones, and low-flow filtration

  • Tight lid recommended (can jump)
