Veilfin Tetra - Hyphess Elachys
The scientific name for the Veilfin Tetra is Hyphessobrycon elachys. This is a stunning and underrated schooling fish native to the Rio Paraguay drainage in Paraguay. This fish is usually overshadowed by the more common species like neons or cardinals but will make for a great, slightly larger growing and shimmering option for a community or planted aquarium. Their delicate look, peaceful nature, and active behaviour do make them the perfect fish to add some volume to a system.
Suitable Tank Buddies
Veilfin reed tetras are peaceful and fare well with a variety of small, non-aggressive tankmates. Other small tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, peaceful barbs, Corydoras, and small peaceful loaches.
Feeding
Veilfin reed tetras are straightforward to nourish, accepting a variety of pellets, flakes, and frozen options. To ensure optimal health, they require a diverse diet combining different food types. Preferably, feed them high-quality micro slow-sinking pellets or crushed flakes, enhanced with frozen bloodworms, blackworms, or live feeds such as baby brine shrimp and micro worms.
