The Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon Innesi) originate from South America. Neon Tetras are known to be the most popular tropical fish to own to all aquarists in the hobby. These fish are a schooling fish which will school through your aquarium and is characterised to have a bright neon blue colour and a vibrant red bottom base.

Caring

Neon Tetras flourish best in a planted aquarium of no less than 40 litres, featuring subdued lighting that simulates their native environment. Optimal conditions include a temperature range from 20°C to 26°C and pH levels between 6.0 and 7.5. Replicating their Amazonian habitat, a soft and mildly acidic water environment is ideal. Consistent gentle filtration combined with routine water changes is crucial to maintaining clean water and ensuring the fish’s well-being.

Ideal Tank Mates

Neon Tetras exhibit peaceful behaviour and thrive when kept in groups of six or more, allowing their natural schooling tendencies to emerge. They coexist well with small, non-aggressive species such as guppies, Corydoras catfish, rasboras, and dwarf gouramis. However, it is important to avoid mixing them with larger or predatory fish, as their diminutive size makes them susceptible to being preyed upon.

Feeding

Neon Tetras are omnivores that benefit from a diverse diet to support their health and maintain their bright colors. Their diet should primarily consist of premium micro-pellets and flakes, complemented by live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Including AquaMunch Instant Decapsulated Brine Shrimp can further enhance their striking red and blue coloration and overall vitality. Feeding small amounts two to three times daily helps preserve water quality and promotes their well-being.

The Neon Tetra is a hardy and vibrant schooling fish, ideal for community aquariums. Moreover, its striking colours and peaceful demeanour make it a favourite among aquarists of all levels.
