Black Emperor Tetra - Nematobrycon palmeri “Black”
Emperor Tetras are beautiful fish with several defining characteristics. The shape of the fish is long and slender. The primary colour is bluish-gray and is very popular freshwater fish that you’ll often find in larger community tanks.
Aquarium Care
To keep Black Emperor Tetras healthy and vibrant, provide a tank of at least 70 litres with soft, slightly acidic to neutral water. Maintain a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and a temperature between 23°C and 27°C. A densely planted tank with open swimming spaces and subdued lighting enhances their natural beauty and provides a stress-free environment. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are essential for their well-being.
Tank Mates for Black Emperor Tetra
These peaceful schooling fish thrive in groups of at least 6-8, which encourages natural shoaling behaviour and reduces stress. Black Emperor Tetras are compatible with other small, non-aggressive species, such as rasboras, Corydoras catfish, and other tetras. Avoid housing them with fin-nipping species or larger, aggressive tank mates.
Feeding & Nutrition
Black Emperor Tetras are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. Provide high-quality flakes or pellets as a staple, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Occasionally include plant-based foods, such as spirulina flakes or blanched vegetables, to ensure balanced nutrition. Feed them 2-3 times daily in small portions
