The clown loach, or tiger botia, is a tropical freshwater fish belonging to the botiid loach family. The clown loach is a peaceful fish and it is a perfect tankmate in the freshwater aquarium.

Ideal Tank Setup

Clown loaches prosper in roomy, thoughtfully arranged aquariums. A tank of at least 300 litres accommodates their energetic swimming behavior. They also appreciate ample hiding places and pristine water conditions. Therefore, robust filtration systems and consistent water changes are essential. To closely mimic their natural environment:

  • Soft, sandy substrate
  • Driftwood and rocks
  • Dense plants
  • Moderate water flow

Compatible Tank Mates

  • Neon tetras
  • Gouramis
  • Corydoras
  • Rasboras / tetra

Feeding

Clown loaches thrive on a diverse omnivorous diet that includes sinking pellets, algae wafers, and frozen options such as bloodworms. Supplement their meals with blanched vegetables like zucchini. Feed small amounts twice daily to promote their health and enhance their vivid coloration. It is essential to remove any leftover food promptly to maintain water quality and support their well-being.
