L519 Honeycomb Bristlenose Pleco - Ancistrus sp. L519
The L519 Honeycomb Bristlenose Pleco stands out as an attractive, manageable, and highly beneficial addition to many freshwater setups.
Identified by its distinctive L-number (a system used by the hobby to classify new or undescribed pleco species), the L519 is a specific variant of the popular Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus species). Its "Honeycomb" moniker perfectly describes its unique pattern – a mesmerizing network of dark, reticulated lines against a lighter, often golden or light brown, body, creating a striking cellular or honey-comb like appearance.
Originating from the fast-flowing, oxygen-rich waters of South American rivers (likely within the Amazon basin), L519s are primarily nocturnal bottom-dwellers.
In the wild, they cling to rocks and driftwood, constantly grazing on algae and biofilm. In the aquarium, they exhibit similar behaviour, often becoming more active during twilight hours, though they will emerge during the day, especially if food is present.
They are generally peaceful and solitary, preferring to find a quiet spot to call their own.
