Amano Shrimp

The Amano Shrimp (Caridina multidentata) is a highly popular freshwater shrimp species known for its exceptional algae-eating abilities and active behavior. Native to Japan and Taiwan, these shrimp have a translucent grayish body adorned with a series of dark spots or dashes along their sides, helping them blend into planted aquariums.

Amano Shrimp are valued in the aquarium hobby for their role in controlling algae growth, as they eagerly consume hair algae, soft green algae, and leftover food. They are peaceful, social creatures that thrive in groups and coexist well with non-aggressive tankmates. However, they require stable water conditions and cannot breed in freshwater, as their larvae need brackish water to develop. Due to their hardiness and beneficial cleaning habits, Amano Shrimp are an excellent addition to well-maintained community tanks.
