The scientific name for Cop. azureus is Copadichromis azureus, a species of haplochromine cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi, Africa. It is also commonly known as the Azureus Cichlid or Blue Azure Cichlid. It belongs to the genus Copadichromis within the family Cichlidae. 

Ideal Tank Setup

Create an optimal environment for the African Azureus Cichlid using a 200-litre aquarium to provide sufficient swimming room. Additionally, keep the water alkaline with a pH of 7.8 to 8.6 and maintain temperatures between 23°C and 28°C. To closely mimic its natural surroundings:

  • Add sandy substrates for authenticity.
  • Incorporate rocky structures for territories.
  • Use robust filtration for clean water.

Compatible Tank Mates

  • Medium-sized Malawi cichlids.
  • Robust, non-aggressive African species.

Diet and Feeding

Provide a diverse diet to intensify its blue coloration. For example, AquaMunch Super Colour flakes can improve brightness within weeks. Additionally, feed twice a day, giving only as much as can be eaten quickly to keep the aquarium clean.
