The Panda Cory Catfish (Corydoras panda) is distinguished by its unique black markings that resemble a panda’s pattern. Native to the cool, transparent rivers of South America, this tranquil bottom-dweller is ideal for community aquariums. Its adaptable nature and engaging activity make it a popular choice for aquarists ranging from beginners to experts.

Ideal Tank Setup

A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is advised for keeping Panda Corys. Provide a soft, sandy substrate to safeguard their delicate barbels. Incorporate shelters such as driftwood, caves, and plants to enhance their comfort. Maintain water conditions with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5, temperature ranging from 20 to 25°C, and gentle water circulation to replicate their native environment.

Compatible Tank Mates

Panda Cory catfish are calm, social fish best kept in groups of six or more. They coexist harmoniously with other gentle species like tetras, guppies, and rasboras. To maintain a low-stress environment, avoid mixing them with larger, predatory fish.

Feeding

The Panda Cory is an omnivorous fish that thrives on a diverse diet. Base their nutrition on premium sinking pellets, enhanced with periodic servings of live or frozen treats such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. They also benefit from blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach. It’s best to offer small meals 2 to 3 times per day for optimal health.
