Cuckoo catfish - Synodontis multipunctatus

An elongated catfish whose body colour is light beige to grey and belly is white. Large black spots cover the body. The head is dotted with small spots. The dorsal fin is black as is the forked tail. The mouth is located on the underside of the head and has three pairs of bar bells.

Ideal Tank Setup

A 200-litre tank or larger is recommended to provide ample swimming space for this active fish. 

  • sandy or fine gravel.
  • Include plenty of caves, rocks, and driftwood

Water Parameters

  • pH Range: 7.5–8.5
  • Temperature: 24–28°C
  • Filtration: Use strong filtration and maintain excellent water quality to mimic their natural habitat.

Compatible Tank Mates

The Cuckoo Catfish thrives in community tanks with African cichlids and other robust species.

Feeding 

  • Sinking pellets
  • Live or frozen treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp
  • Blanched vegetables e.g. cucumber
