The green neon tetra is a freshwater fish of the family Characidae of order Characiformes. It is native to the upper Orinoco and Negro Rivers in South America.
Green Neon Tetras are pretty low-maintenance when it comes to their temperament. These fish are quite peaceful and prefer to mind their business and not cause trouble in the tank.

Ideal Tank Setup

Provide an ideal environment with a 40-litre aquarium. Maintain soft, acidic water (pH 5.0–6.5) at temperatures between 23°C and 27°C. Incorporating plants and a dark substrate will intensify their coloration. Consistent water changes are essential to ensure their well-being.

To replicate its natural habitat:

  • Use a 40-litre tank for swimming space.
  • Add plants like Java moss for cover.
  • Include dark substrate to boost vibrancy.
  • Install gentle filtration for clean water.
  • Maintain subdued lighting for comfort.

Suitable tank mates include:

  • Rasboras
  • Corydoras catfish
  • Dwarf gouramis
  • Cherry shrimp
  • Ember tetras
