A popular community fish amongst hobbyists, The harlequin Rasboras (Trigonostigma Heteromorpha) are a perfect fish for beginners. These fish are a schooling fish and will make your aquarium more lively and vivid as you watch them actively swim through your setup.

Caring for Harlequin Rasboras

Harlequin Rasboras thrive in tanks of at least 40 liters, providing open swimming areas alongside live plants to replicate their natural habitat. They prefer water temperatures between 22°C and 27°C, with a pH range of 6.0–7.5. Subdued lighting and a dark substrate enhance their colours, while regular water changes and proper filtration ensure a healthy environment.

Feeding Harlequin Rasboras

A balanced and nutrient-rich diet is essential for maintaining the vivid colouring and vitality of Harlequin Rasboras. Provide high-quality flakes or micro-pellets as their primary food, supplemented with live or frozen options like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Enhance their diet with AquaMunch Instant Decapsulated Brine Treat, a convenient and nutrient-dense option that supports their growth, energy, and bright colouration.

Ideal Tank Mates for Harlequin Rasboras

These peaceful fish thrive in community tanks with other non-aggressive species, such as tetras, Corydoras, guppies, and small gouramis. To encourage their natural schooling behaviour, keep them in groups of at least six. Avoid housing them with large or aggressive fish, as their small size makes them vulnerable to predation.

Breeding Harlequin Rasboras

Breeding Harlequin Rasboras is achievable in a well-prepared setup. Use a breeding tank with soft, slightly acidic water and fine-leaved plants for egg-laying. During courtship, males display intensified colours to attract females. Once spawning is complete, remove the adults to protect the eggs. The fry hatch within 24–36 hours and can be fed infusoria or finely crushed fry food for healthy growth.
