Lacustris Rainbow - Melanotaenia lacustris
Among the dazzling array of fish that brighten our aquariums, rainbowfish hold a special place with their vibrant, ever-changing hues.
But even within this colorful family, one species stands out for its breathtaking and unique coloration: Melanotaenia lacustris, commonly known as the Lacustris Rainbowfish or the Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish.
With its shimmering azure scales and peaceful disposition, this fish is truly an aquatic masterpiece, bringing a piece of Papua New Guinea's ancient waters to your home.
Peaceful and active, the Lacustris Rainbowfish is an ideal candidate for a community tank. They are highly social and thrive in groups, exhibiting their best colors and most natural behaviors when kept in a school of at least six, but preferably eight or more individuals. In larger groups, they will establish a loose hierarchy, with males engaging in fascinating display rituals, flaring their fins and intensifying their colors to attract females.
They are mid-to-upper dwelling fish, constantly swimming and exploring, adding dynamic movement to your aquascape.
