The yoyo loach, Almora loach or Pakistani loach is a freshwater fish belonging to the loach family Botiidae. It originates in the slow-running and still waters of the Ganges basin in northern India and possibly Nepal. Despite the alternative common name Pakistani loach, the true B. almorhae is not known from Pakistan.

Compatible Tank Mates

These peaceful loaches do best when housed with non-aggressive tank mates. Their lively behavior is most evident in groups of five or more individuals. It’s advisable to avoid slow-moving or long-finned fish to reduce the risk of fin nipping. They also serve as efficient snail controllers in the aquarium. Appropriate companions include:

  • Neon tetras for vibrant schooling.
  • Rasboras for matching energy.
  • Corydoras catfish for bottom harmony.
  • Small gouramis for calm companionship.

Feeding

Yoyo loaches thrive on a diverse omnivorous diet, including sinking pellets and frozen items such as bloodworms. Supplement their meals with blanched vegetables like zucchini. Feed them small amounts twice daily to support optimal health. A varied diet promotes vibrant coloration and active behavior. Be sure to remove any leftover food promptly to maintain water quality and ensure a healthy environment.
