Spotted Talking Catfish - Agamyxis pectinifrons
Agamyxis pectinifrons, the spotted talking catfish, spotted raphael catfish or whitebarred catfish, is a species of thorny catfish found in the Amazon basin where it has been recorded from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. This species grows to a length of 15 centimetres
Ideal Tank Mates
Spotted Talking Catfish are peaceful and ideal for community aquariums housing larger species. They comfortably share space with mid- and top-dwelling fish such as larger tetras, barbs, or gouramis, which typically do not interfere with their nocturnal feeding. However, because they may prey on small fish or fry during the night, it is best to avoid keeping very small tank mates. Providing a roomy tank with ample hiding places promotes a balanced and stress-free habitat.
Feeding
Spotted Talking Catfish are carnivorous and thrive on a protein-rich diet that enhances their distinctive spotted appearance. Suitable foods include sinking pellets, frozen bloodworms, and flake foods, ideally offered near their shelters at dusk. They also readily consume live or frozen brine shrimp. Feeding them small amounts nightly aligns with their nocturnal nature and helps preserve water quality.
